Asansol: Notorious gangster Subodh Singh was brought from Kolkata’s Presidency Jail to Asansol Court on Monday for a hearing. During the proceedings in the special court, a witness identified Subodh Singh, the mastermind behind the 2017 robbery at the Muthoot Finance branch on Burnpur Road, along with five other accused.
Among those present in court was Thakur Naurang Singh, who is out on bail following a Supreme Court order. Two other accused participated in the proceedings via video conferencing from Alipore Central Jail in Kolkata and Beur Jail in Patna, where they are currently held.
The ongoing trial pertains to the December 2017 robbery when dacoits entered the Muthoot branch soon after it opened. Armed with guns, they held employees hostage and looted approximately тВ╣9 crore worth of gold. Subsequent joint operations by the Bengal and Bihar police led to the arrest of Subodh Singh and his associates in Patna, where 15 kg of gold was recovered.
In June 2024, Subodh Singh was transferred from Beur Jail to Asansol for his alleged involvement in a shooting and attempted robbery at businessman Bhalotia’s residence in Raniganj.
